The Challenge

On the water, keeping a vessel in service is everything — hauling out for repairs is expensive and disruptive, and hot work aboard is heavily restricted. The marine environment is uniquely harsh, with constant moisture, immersion, and vibration attacking every surface, and standard coatings will not bond to the damp, contaminated steel that is unavoidable on lakes and rivers.

Engines and casings, shafts and stern gear, hull plate, decks, ballast and cargo tanks, bilges, and rubber components all corrode, erode, and wear in marine service. The most vulnerable areas are frequently those hardest to access and impossible to keep dry.

Belzona surface-tolerant and underwater-curing composites and coatings are built for marine conditions — bonding to damp and wetted steel and curing even underwater. Rumford Industrial Group applies them afloat and in service, eliminating hot work and avoiding dry-dock wherever possible.

Belzona Solutions for Marine
Propulsion System & Shaft Repair
Rudders, propellers, kort nozzles, jet tubes, and shafts suffer cavitation, erosion, and corrosion from continuous underwater operation, requiring metal rebuilding and resurfacing materials that reclaim lost substrate and resist future attack.
Engine Repair & Protection
Marine engines suffer cracked casings, cooling problems, and heavy cavitation and corrosion around cylinder blocks and liners, requiring high-temperature repair composites and coatings that reclaim damaged areas and extend engine life.
Shimming & Chocking
Heavy propulsion systems, auxiliary machinery, and other equipment require precise alignment and anchorage under constant pressure, impact, and vibration, requiring pourable chocking and leveling compounds that provide a reliable foundation.
Rubber Component Repair & Sealing
Fenders, buoys, bellows, and hoses suffer rips and tears from in-service deterioration that can force premature decommissioning, requiring cold-applied flexible polyurethanes that restore serviceable condition at a fraction of replacement cost.
Storage Tank Repair & Protection
Storage tanks suffer emergency leaks on wet and oily surfaces along with chemical attack and corrosion damage, requiring potable water-approved, chemically resistant repair materials.
Emergency/Field Water Repairs
Pipes, engines, shafts, and hydraulic rams face unplanned maintenance needs on wet, oil-contaminated, and underwater surfaces, requiring fast-curing epoxy composites with extended working life for in-situ application.
