We believe the most sustainable piece of equipment is the one you don't have to replace.
At Belzona, sustainability isn't a separate initiative — it's built into what repair and protection work has always done: extend the life of equipment and infrastructure so it doesn't have to be manufactured again. Every tank, pump, pipe, and piece of machinery we help repair instead of replace avoids the raw materials, energy, and emissions that go into building something new.

Figures reflect Belzona's own published sustainability data — to be reconfirmed with Belzona corporate before final launch.
Belzona frames sustainability as the "conservation of man-made resources." Rather than centering the conversation on recycling or offsets, the company's position is that the most effective way to reduce environmental impact is to keep existing equipment in service longer. As Belzona's own leadership has put it, extending the lifespan of an asset avoids the need to replace it — which in turn avoids the environmental cost of manufacturing, transporting, and installing new machinery.
Since 1952, Belzona's repair composites and protective coatings have been built around this idea: restore a damaged pump, tank, pipe, or structure to full working condition rather than scrapping and replacing it. That's a circular-economy model in practice, even if it isn't always labeled that way.
Rebuilt and protected in place — the existing asset stays in service instead of being replaced.
Belzona has developed its repair composites and coatings to be solvent-free, in contrast to cheaper alternatives that rely on hazardous solvents harmful to both the environment and the people applying them. Rather than simply labeling hazardous ingredients, Belzona has focused on reformulating products to reduce or eliminate them in the first place.
Because Belzona materials are cold-applied, they eliminate the need for hot work — welding, machining, and open-flame processes that consume more energy and carry greater safety risk. Across nearly every equipment category Belzona serves — pumps, tanks, pipework, structural steel — cold-applied repair is the safer and lower-impact alternative to traditional methods.
Belzona's products play a direct role in renewable and low-emission energy infrastructure. In hydropower and wind power, Belzona materials are used to extend the lifespan and improve the efficiency of critical equipment, helping these renewable assets stay in service longer and perform better.
Belzona applies the same sustainability principles to its own facilities. At its Harrogate, UK headquarters, the company installed 762 solar panels across its buildings, generating more than 300,000 kWh annually — enough to power roughly 111 UK homes for a year. Combined with renewable energy purchased from its electricity provider, all of Belzona's electricity now comes from renewable sources. The company has stated this is one step toward a broader net-zero goal, part of a multi-year effort by its Environmental Committee to reduce Belzona's overall environmental footprint.
Belzona supports local environmental projects, planting 1,000+ trees through community partnerships.
In 2022–2023, staff planted trees through a three-year partnership with the White Rose Forest, collected acorns with KindleWoods, and helped local charity Henshaws with a planting project on its grounds.
Belzona's sustainability efforts are backed by formal governance rather than one-off initiatives. The company established an Environmental Committee in 2021 to oversee sustainability practices across its operations and holds ISO 14001 certification, the international standard for environmental management systems. Belzona also calculates the carbon footprint of its products and business operations to identify where further reductions can be made.
Every repair we complete is one less piece of equipment sent to a landfill or rebuilt from scratch. Skip the research — reach out to us today and see how Belzona solutions can help.
