The Challenge

Fans, blowers, and compressors move abrasive, corrosive, and dirty gas streams that erode blades, unbalance rotors, and coat surfaces with deposits. As blades wear and material builds up, efficiency drops, vibration rises, and bearings and seals fail early. Replacing a large fan rotor is costly and slow, and welding repairs distort thin blade sections.

The Problem
Bare Blower Rotor

A steel mill blower rotor ran on bare metal, collecting deposits that choked airflow and threw the rotor out of balance.

A real Rumford Industrial Group project using Belzona solutions. Outcomes vary by fan size, gas stream, and extent of erosion — contact Rumford Industrial Group for a project-specific assessment.

Centrifugal and axial fans, ID and FD fans, blowers, and compressor components suffer erosion from particulate-laden gas, corrosion from acidic condensates, and fouling that unbalances the rotor. Even modest metal loss changes blade geometry and destroys the balance a rotor needs to run smoothly.

Belzona metal repair composites rebuild eroded blades and impellers to profile, while smooth, release-promoting coatings resist build-up and protect against erosion-corrosion. Applied in situ by Rumford Industrial Group, they restore balance, efficiency, and service life without a replacement rotor.

Belzona Solutions for This Application
Metal Rebuilding & Component Repair
Repairing worn fan blades, bearing/bush housings, keyways, cracked and holed casings, compressor housings, air receivers, and filter/separator equipment back to original profile.
Erosion, Corrosion & Abrasion Protective Coatings
Coatings applied to fan blades, housings, intake vanes, compressor housings, and filter/separator equipment to resist abrasion, erosion, and corrosion, including at elevated temperatures.
Self-Lubricating Shaft Rebuilding
Self-lubricating epoxy composites used to quickly and efficiently rebuild fan and equipment shafts to their original profile, reducing friction and wear.
Efficiency Enhancement Coatings
Specialty coatings that improve rotary equipment efficiency, with gains of up to 20% recorded on refurbished equipment.
What Belzona Can Do for Fans, Blowers, & Compressors
