The Challenge

Erosion and corrosion are among the most persistent and costly threats to industrial equipment. Left unchecked, they cause equipment failure, safety risks, and unplanned downtime. Traditional repair methods — welding, replacement, or sending equipment out for machining or refurbishment — turn every failure into days or weeks of unplanned downtime.

Pumps, casings, impellers, heat exchangers, valves, pipework and other assets across all industries are continuously exposed to the destructive forces of fluid flow, chemical attack, and cavitation. The material loss from these forces accelerates over time — a small, pitted area can become a through-wall defect, an efficiency loss becomes equipment failure.

Belzona's composite repair materials and protective coatings address these problems with cold-applied, solvent-free solutions engineered to cure in place with no hot work, no welding, and no specialist trades — keeping downtime to a minimum. Rumford Industrial Group brings this expertise and local support directly to facilities across five states.

Belzona Solutions for This Challenge
Metal Repair & Rebuilding
Rebuild eroded or corroded metal surfaces to original dimensions. Fully machinable, bonds to all common metals. No hot work required.
Erosion-Corrosion Protective Coatings
Ceramic-filled epoxy coatings applied over repaired or new surfaces to resist further attack by fast-moving fluids — extending service intervals significantly.
Efficiency-Enhancing Coatings
Smooth epoxy coatings that reduce surface roughness on pump internals, improving hydraulic efficiency and reducing energy consumption while protecting against erosion.
High Temperature Repair
Repair composites rated for elevated operating temperatures where standard epoxy systems would soften or fail — for equipment in hot process environments.
Emergency Fast-Cure Repair
Fast-curing composites that return equipment to service in hours — on wet, oily, or contaminated surfaces where standard preparation isn't possible.
Heavy Erosion Protection
Ceramic-filled composites for severe erosion environments — pump casings, impellers, and equipment subject to high-velocity, particle-laden fluid flow.
How It Works
01
Surface PreparationThe damaged area is cleaned and prepared — typically by abrasive blasting or mechanical abrading — to achieve the correct profile for adhesion. Belzona materials bond to steel, stainless, aluminium, copper, plastics, and most substrates that can take an anchor profile.
02
Repair Composite ApplicationThe appropriate Belzona metal repair composite is mixed and applied by hand to rebuild the damaged area to original dimensions. No specialist tools required — application uses basic hand tools.
03
Room Temperature CureThe material cures at ambient temperature in hours — no oven, no heat blanket, no post-weld heat treatment. Cure time can be accelerated with gentle warming if required.
04
Protective Coating (Optional)A ceramic or epoxy topcoat can be applied over the repair for long-term erosion and corrosion protection — significantly extending the interval to next maintenance.
05
Return to ServiceEquipment is returned to full service with no distortion, no residual stress, and no dimensional change. Fully machinable if close tolerances are required.
