As well as directly wearing down the equipment which handles it, abrasive media has an effect on support equipment and mechanical elements with close tolerances such as drive rollers, shafts, mechanical joints and bearing housings, when dust and fine particles in the environment become trapped between mating surfaces and contribute to accelerated wear. Fatigue of metallic components sets in and premature failure can result in costly unexpected shutdowns. Belzona’s metallic repair compounds can be used to quickly reinstate failed or damaged equipment ensuring rapid return to service. Cold curing compounds minimize risk to workers and distortion of equipment due to heat. Simple application techniques using formers for example allow application in difficult areas. Excellent mechanical properties such as high adhesion, compressive strength and resistance to erosion mean the products will often prolong equipment’s service life. Typical equipment repaired include shafts, splined couplings, keyways, bearing housings, drive rollers, pin and bush housings and scored hydraulic rams among others.
